I Caved…

Apple Gadgets Mobile

So, ever since Apple announced the Apple Watch last September, I’ve pretty much thought it was a pointless waste of time. “I have a watch..”, “I already get my email on my phone…”, “The display’s too small to do anything useful…”.

All of these things are pretty much true, and everything I’ve read about the Apple Watch so far says its a completely redundant device, but like most things Apple, I *want* it. I spent a long time avoiding it. I didn’t read the reviews, previews or tweets. I never watched any of the videos. I basically avoided it at all costs. I don’t know why, but I was on a self-imposed Apple Watch hiatus. Until a couple of weeks ago.

I was on a lunch break at work, checking out the latest tech news. Then one thing led to another, and the next thing I know, I’m reading about the range of wearables from Apple. I didn’t mean to. I don’t know how I got there, but one thing’s for sure, I got that hit and I became an addict. Like a junkie in a bad movie, I needed the score. Just one problem: my wife.

Like most of the gadgets I want to buy, I needed to run it past the boss. The head honcho. Jefe. The old ball and chain (I hope she doesn’t see this!). I met with an initial ‘no’. Then a LOT more ‘no’s in the following days and weeks.  Then, after a discussion with her dad and I, she discovered that her mum was keen on the watch. Then things changed. We went to the Apple store, she tried one on, and I was given permission. I’m now the proud owner of, well, an order number.

With 2.4 million preorders, demand is high and supply is low. The projected delivery date is sometime in June, but Apple have apparently ramped up production and some May and June preorders have been pulled forward. I don’t know if I’ll be one of the lucky ones to get an early delivery.

Even if I’m not, Daddy needs his hit of tech.
